The month of May begins with Beltane marking the midpoint between the Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. 5 May is the exact point of solar and lunar beltane this year, with a full moon lunar eclipse in Scorpio.
Beltane /May Day is the fire festival that marks the beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Celtic tradition this is symbolised by the Goddess and the Green Man coming into union, as masculine and feminine unite.
The sun is in Taurus, which is a feminine sign relating to Mother Earth, however the Bull with horns is a very masculine symbol. This sign unites both masculine and feminine, with the burgeoning of life happening all around us, as nature procreates and flowers blossom. May Day was traditionally a time for young lovers to marry, as the energies of new life and sacred union are in the air.
Since the Solar Eclipse in the last degree of Aries on 6 April, we have been “between eclipses” which is a highly pressurised time. We are also in the midst of Mercury retrograde in Taurus which creates a very slow moving, stubborn energy full of hitches, delays and tedious irritations. Mercury will station direct on 15 May. This is a time to slow down, enjoy the simple pleasures of life, and go back over things relating to the house that Mercury is moving through in your chart.
The Solar Eclipse was deeply karmic and transformational, igniting a new stage of your Soul Purpose. This period marks a time of preparation and renewal. The Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio is a powerful moon of intense purification, bringing out all that is hidden from the subconscious. The truth of relationships will be revealed; and there may be endings and beginnings.
Whatever is coming up for you now, take note that this is what you need to let go of, emotionally and psychologically. The Scorpio full moon is an intense time, and always signifies a purging of the lower emotions as they are brought to light. The eclipse makes this even more potent, and it may bring about endings and beginnings in relationships.
Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio, stations retrograde on 1 May, giving us the opportunity to review the way we use our power. Do we empower those around us? Or do we seek power over. This marks the beginning of a deeply introspective, transformational time between now and October.
At this time of deep healing and emotional renewal, allow yourself to experience regeneration. Whatever your current perception of yourself, realise you are so much more. Your soul is connected to ancient wisdom and knowledge, you only need to expand into it, and align your consciousness higher into 5D.
Release limiting patterns and self-sabotaging behaviours - these are the snakeskins that need to be shed now. You may wish to do a water ritual, cleansing or bathing in holy waters, to assist the cleansing of the emotional body.
The May full moon is the festival of Wesak in the esoteric traditions. This is the most sacred moon of the year: the Buddha full moon when the masters converge, and prayers and spiritual practice are magnified many times over. This is a powerful window in which to commit to your spiritual path and receive new information on your purpose, and the collective destiny of humanity.
This is a month of movement with several planets changing signs. On 7 May, Venus enters Cancer, bringing a softer, more nurturing tone to relationships. Emotional sensitivity is heightened, and empathy will be stronger. This is a good time to tune into your partner’s needs, and express your heartfelt desires.
On 16 May Jupiter enters Taurus, which will have the effect of slowing down the general pace from fiery, dynamic Aries to grounded, slow-moving Taurus. Jupiter magnifies the energy of the sign it is in, and we can expect to see more interest in natural health, eco-conscious living, intentional communities, permaculture and reforestation projects, as people turn to earth conscious living.
Jupiter‘s entry into Taurus is closely followed by the New Moon in Taurus on 19 May. It is time to lay the foundations of your dreams for this year, and the next cycle of nine years. The more spiritual work you do during the month of May, the clearer your path will be.
The day after the new moon, Mars enters the sign of Leo. The divine masculine moves from sensitive, feminine Cancer to flamboyant Leo, the dramatic, warm-hearted lion energy bringing a more outgoing mood to proceedings.
On 21 May the Sun moves into Gemini, and the focus will be on socialising, communicating and sharing information. We will feel the movement of air in this mutable sign, after the fixed earth energy of Taurus.
So once we make it through the potent lunar eclipse, we will see a lot of movement and change this month. We can learn to ride the shifting energies like a magic carpet, seeing where they will take us. Magical manifestation is possible, as you shed denser emotions and purify your soul, becoming lighter and more ethereal. Each time you emerge from the chrysalis you are stronger than before.
Pluto at 0* Aquarius is ushering in a new cycle, squaring the nodes of the moon in Taurus and Scorpio, which creates a deeply karmic challenge. Can we leverage ourselves to a higher plane, bringing through the true age of Aquarius with humanity at it’s heart? Or will we succumb to the pressure of what may seem inevitable, but in reality is no match for the full divinity of the collective liberated spirit?
On Beltane we ignite the fire and unite the feminine and masculine in sacred creation and rebirth. May we generate the needed energy for true change.
