The exact Summer Solstice is on June 21st at 02.43 GMT /UT. This is the moment when the Sun enters the cardinal sign of Cancer. On this day the sun reaches its zenith in the Northern hemisphere, appearing to stand still, giving us the longest day. After the solstice the daylight hours will begin to shorten again, moving towards the winter solstice.

This is a time of increased solar light, and heightened energy. It is an outgoing time in the everyday world, as people spend more time outside in social gatherings. As the light increases externally, we dive deep into the inner world of emotions with the Sun in Cancer. In Britain, the Goddess Donmu presides over the summer solstice – Goddess of the Oceans and Queen of the Deep. As the Sun illuminates the sign of the crab, our emotional life becomes more prominent in our awareness.

This heightened sense of feelings is even more magnified as the Sun conjuncts Jupiter in early Cancer. This huge planet is expanding the beautiful qualities of emotional security, safety, and the importance of home and family. The Sun and Jupiter are making a square to Saturn and Neptune in Aries. This is a cardinal energy that creates tension. We have big Cancerian energy that wants to feel all the feels, be emotionally intelligent, sensitive and nurturing. This is at odds with the fire energy that is driven and self-serving, with Saturn here creating karmic obstacles for those who abuse their power. Neptune in Aries brings a call to the collective to make a fresh start from a higher perspective, living from the guidance of soul and spiritual law. There is tension between dynamic pioneering energy, and emotional protective energy. Fire and water can be very dramatic and emotional when at odds with each other.

The square aspect highlights the need for compassion and tolerance, and accepting others even when they have a different outlook on life. Futile fighting will simply create more turbulence and disruption in the astral plane. This is a time for calm, and focusing on balancing your will to move forward, with your inner sensitivity and regard for others.

The Sun and Jupiter are positively aspected to the Moon and Mars, in Taurus and Virgo respectively. There is scope to move forward by thinking in terms of being grounded and practical, and putting one foot in front of the other. If we continue to care for the earth, and do what we can in our own sphere of influence, we will keep moving towards a right way of living. Every choice and decision counts. Everything we support or deny; everything we give our energy to; creates the reality of the next moment. Where you put your sacred attention counts.

Do I take responsibility for my own emotions and triggers, rather than projecting them onto others? Am I creating more peace and harmony in my own sphere?
